Kinetic water sculpture

This sculpture evokes the relative nature of the perception of time. Water arrives from the top of the structure as if it is captured from the air with the vertical antenna. A thin thread of water flows downward in a continuous fashion and fills the first cylindrical vessel.  When this cylinder is full, it pours into the next. As each cylinder has a different water capacity, they empty at their own rates. The resulting water choreography has a random aspect that creates a discordant rhythm. The title of the sculpture comes from the term ‘clepsydra’ which is an ancient time-measuing device which is powered by the flow of water.
